Cases mediated in this program include (but are not limited to):

                Assaults

Accidental Homicide

Property Destruction

Typically, cases in this program, if unresolved in mediation, will be referred back to the court of continuing jurisdiction or the Harris County Department of Community Supervision and Corrections.

Most cases mediated in this program are referred to the DRC by the courts (typically District Criminal) or the Harris County Department of Community Supervision and Corrections.  Some cases, however, are mediated at the request of counsel or law enforcement.

Criminal Courts and the Harris County Department of Community Supervision and Corrections refer cases by mail and those cases are typically scheduled for a mediation date within a week to ten days.  Other entities requesting DRC mediation services are encouraged to call the DRC for information on scheduling.

Mediations are conducted at the DRC offices and scheduled to commence at 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, or 7:00 PM.  Mediations may be scheduled for business hours if more convenient for the parties.  On-site security can be arranged if appropriate or requested.

To schedule a mediation, call the DRC’s victim offender mediation department at (713) 755-8274.

The DRC provides these services in English and Spanish.
