JOB TITLE: Veterinary Operations Supervisor

EDUCATION: A Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited veterinary school is required. Board specialty in shelter medicine is desired.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of surgical experience in spaying and neutering dogs and cats of all ages and sizes (including pediatric) is required. Two years of managerial and/or supervisory experience is also required. Shelter experience is desired.
JOB SKILLS: Must have knowledge in the practice of shelter veterinary medicine.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Neuters or spays dogs and cats prior to being adopted. Assists in the development and/or reviews sanitation, treatment, and euthanasia protocols. Oversees the prevention/control of disease in sheltered animals. Oversees the selection, examination and care of animals placed into the adoption program. Responsible for the neutering of potential adoption animals and examines animals daily for signs of disease. Coordinates with representatives of veterinary public health approved animal rescue groups to affect the transfer of animals as appropriate. Coordinates the diagnosis and treatment of pets placed in foster homes. Develops/maintains networks to affect the transfer of animals to other adoption agencies. Participates in divisional strategic planning, develops performance measures for the Veterinary Operation section and monitors progress toward meeting program goals. Develops the Veterinary Operations budget and provides budgetary oversight. Provides general supervision to technicians performing vaccinations, treatment, and euthanasia. Provides clinical supervision to technicians assisting with surgery. Responsible for the enforcement of applicable Texas laws and Harris County regulations/policies. Submits daily surgery/work-up stats at the end of each day. Provides adoption information updates for each monthly staff meeting. Routinely reviews bite case book and takes appropriate action as needed. Evaluates quarantined animals daily. Consults with the public and medical community concerning rabies and other zoonotic diseases as needed. Performs other duties as assigned; including tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.
