JOB TITLE:              Substitute Teacher – Special Populations

 

DEPARTMENT:      Juvenile Probation– Juvenile Justice Charter School

All Facilities & North/South Campuses

 

HOURS:                     Per State Requirement

 

SALARY:                  $18.00 Per Hour

                                    Based on 26 Pay Periods

                                               

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/JOB SKILLS:   Bachelor’s degree and certification for Special Education or ESL (English as a Second Language) is required.  At least one year of student teaching or approved internship is preferred.  Must have a strong knowledge of subjects assigned, organization, communication and interpersonal skills; general knowledge of curriculum / instruction and the ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.  The successful applicant must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Reports to principal, administers lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Administer and plans lessons (in classroom teacher’s absence) that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles  Conducts assessment of student learning styles and uses results to plan instructional activities.  Plans appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.    Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process; helps student analyze and improve study methods and habits.  Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations; works cooperatively with Special Education teachers to modify curriculum as needed.   Manages student behavior in accordance with HC-JJAEP (Harris County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program) policy and procedures, student manual and TJPC (Texas Juvenile Probation Commission) standards.      Participates in staff development activities to improve job-related skills; keep inform of a d complies with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Performs special duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Chief Juvenile Probation Officer of representative.   Position will require working with dangerous/aggressive youths; should possess a high tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful work environment.  Requires standing, stooping bending, pulling and pushing.  Moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom equipment.

 

POSITION IS SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS.

 

ALL NEW EMPLOYEES ARE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO AND PASS A PHYSICAL EXAMINATION ADMINISTERED BY THE DETENTION CENTER STAFF PHYSICIAN AND ALSO PRESENT EVIDENCE OF TB SKIN TEST PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
