JOB TITLE: Forensic Toxicology Fellow*
DEPARTMENT: Medical Examiner’s Office
HOURS: 40 Hours Per Week

EDUCATION: A recent Ph.D., Toxicology, Chemistry, Pharmacology or a related medical science is required.
EXPERIENCE: A working knowledge of drug pharmacology and pharmacokinetic and modern analytical instrumentation (GC/MS AND/OR LC/MS/MS) is preferred.
JOB SKILLS: The successful candidate must possess the skill to understand drug actions and inter-actions and the techniques applied to their analysis in biological matrices. Supervisory, time management and prioritization skill will be an asset. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint) is strongly preferred. .
JOB DESCRIPTION: The incumbent will go through a training program which will familiarize her/him with all operational and administrative aspects of the lab.
· Evidence receiving.
· Analysis by head space gas chromatography (GS) for ethyl alcohol and other volatile substances.
· Analysis for carbon monoxide by Co-Oximetry, UV spectrophotometry and headspace GS.
· Immunochemical screens for common drugs of abuse.
· Chromatographic or spectrometric forensic analysis of drugs.
· Liquid/liquid extractions.
· Solid phase extraction (manual and automated).
· High pressure liquid chromatography.
· Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) as applied in analytical situations.
Participates in continuing education programs; remains current with literature in forensic and analytical chemistry and makes recommendations for the professional advancement of HC-MEO Toxicology Laboratory. Prepares manuscripts for presentation or publication in peer reviewed forensic journals; becomes knowledgeable of ABFT and ASCLD/LAB International Program accreditation guidelines and assists in ensuring laboratory remains in compliance with said standards. Routine external contacts with district attorneys, law enforcement officers and defense attorneys regarding evidence and test results or when subpoenaed to testify; educators and peers during professional training or participation in accreditation or certification visits. Follows all safety, method manual and quality assurance/quality control protocols; keeps the Forensic Laboratory Director informed of activities, changes and any unusual circumstances; other duties as assigned by the Chief Toxicologist or Assist Chief Toxicologist.
