JOB TITLE:               Director of Transitional Services*

 

DEPARTMENT:        Children's Protective Services

Preparation for Adult Living (PAL), Houston Alumni & Youth Center (HAY)

 

HOURS:                     Monday – Friday, Flexible Schedule

 

SALARY:                    Will Be Discussed In Departmental Interview

                                    Plus Mileage Reimbursement

                                    Based on 26 Pay Periods

 

EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, Public Relations, or a Human Services related field.  A Master’s degree in the aforementioned or related fields is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of five (5) years of combined managerial/leadership experience. Grant writing experience is required. History of progressively increasing responsibility in supervision/management preferred. Experience with strategic planning, organizational development, capacity building and program development preferred. 

 

JOB SKILLS:  Must have knowledge of strategic planning, organizational development, management concepts, program development, public and private services in Harris County. Knowledge of fundraising and public agency funding is also required.  Strong skills in leadership, proposal writing, public relations, and negotiation are required. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Under the direction of the Director of Administration, provides the overall management, strategic direction and capacity building for the transitional services program in Harris and twelve (12) surrounding counties. Maintains good public relations between internal programs and with external stakeholders. Supervises assigned staff and management of entire program. Develops and implements short and long range plans and goals to meet organizational objectives.  Develops and implements effective plans to promote policies, programs and legislation to increase resources for transition foster youth at the local and state level.  Creates ongoing funding opportunities for the profile of the transition services program and leveraged needed resources for youth aging out of foster care and former foster youth.  Provides strong leadership and development to the overall transition services program.  Facilitates communication and problem solving.  Composes and communicates status reports for program. Develops operational policies and procedures of the program. Participate in hiring and training of all new employees. Manages program budget. Copes well with stress and exercises tact/diplomacy.  Performs other duties as assigned.
