EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of vocational nursing is required.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience as an LVN in a public health setting, school-based clinic, hospital or a physician’s office is required. One year of experience screening immunization records of infants, children, adolescents and adults is also required.
JOB SKILLS: Must be currently licensed to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas by the Texas Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners and possess a current Healthcare Provider CPR certification. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required. Driving record history will be checked. Must be comfortable driving a large mobile van or be willing to be trained. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access and Excel is required. Proficiency testing in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access and Excel will be administered during departmental interview.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides immunizations to infants, children, adolescents, and adults. Screens client’s immunization records to determine the appropriate vaccine(s) needed. Administers immunizations in accordance with current protocols/schedules/standing delegation orders and “Pharmacy D Regulations”. Educates client/families about the importance of completing all of the vaccines in a timely manner. Completes all required documentation for immunization services. Enters client’s immunization records (real time or historical) into the Insight database. Assists in completing/preparing the required Texas Department of State Health Services reports as needed by the established deadlines. Performs monthly immunization reminder/recall activities on the Immunization Outreach Mobile Team (IOMT) Immunization database. Conducts ongoing quality assurance reviews to document consent for the client’s participation in the immunization registry. Ensures that all administered vaccines are accurately recorded in insight. Communicates with immediate supervisor and/or pre-identified Harris County Public Health & Environmental Services (HCPHES) staff on any software issues related to insight. Alternates as one of the driver’s of the mobile unit to transport mobile team staff/supplies including taking the van to service appointments. Responsible for monitoring daily/weekly vaccine inventory to maintain adequate vaccine is available. Assists with stocking the mobile unit with medical supplies and monitoring the supply inventory. Sets up/maintains equipment used on the mobile unit. Reports problems/concerns related to all equipment assigned to the IOMT as soon as possible to the Immunization Outreach Coordinator. Maintains/displays cultural sensitivity to community residents seeking immunization services. Performs other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.
