JOB TITLE: LVN-Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention*

Plus Mileage Reimbursement / Based on 26 Pay Periods
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of vocational nursing is required.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of nursing experience in a public/home health or related setting is required.
JOB SKILLS: Must be currently licensed to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas by the Texas Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners and possess a current Healthcare Professionals CPR certification. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for unscheduled outreach activities is required. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Access is required. Proficiency testing in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Access will be administered during departmental interview. Good oral and written communication skills are required.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Opens new cases according to the established Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program (PHBPP) guidelines. Draws blood or obtains results from the provider to determine/document pre/post vaccine hepatitis B status of household/sexual contacts and to confirm status of infected females. Schedules/conducts home visits to administer hepatitis B vaccine to at-risk infants, children, adolescents and adults in accordance with PHBPP policies and procedures. Maintains hepatitis B vaccine inventories for PHBPP and prepares monthly C-33 report for submission to Vaccines for Children Technician. Performs accurate documentation of all follow-up activities. Completes the appropriate Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) summary report forms and prints a copy of the report. Submits the updated DSHS summary report forms to the PHBPP Quality Assurance Technician within 24 hours of follow-up. Monitors laboratory website daily and prints a copy of the lab results they become available. Communicates lab results to individual client or parent/guardian of a minor, as they are available and updates the client’s insight chart. Provides verbal education and/or written materials about hepatitis B disease/vaccine to clients, community and healthcare providers. Performs other duties as assigned; including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
