JOB TITLE: Fire Field Technician – Part Time
DEPARTMENT: Fire Marshal’s Office
HOURS: 24 Hours per Week/Flexible, Evening & Weekends
SALARY: Will Be Discussed During Departmental Interview
Commensurate with Experience; Based on 26 pay periods
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/JOB SKILLS: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent plus three (3) years fire service experience; OR Associate degree with emphasis in fire science or education plus one year fire service experience. Valid driver’s license is required at application. A valid Texas Class B Operator’s license at time of employment. At the time of appointment, must be certified by the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshal’s Association (SFFMA) as a Basic Firefighter and Level I Instructor or Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) equivalent.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Ensures the operational readiness of all training props according to manufacturer’s recommendations and NFPA 1403 for live fire training props; classrooms, equipment, and other consumables. Manages the maintenance shop and storage areas. Specific work assignments: Constructs, maintains, repairs training props; assists with preparation and execution of training scenarios; operates prop fueling systems and documents fuel use; oversees fork lift operations; receives materials and supplies; and maintains accurate inventory of tools, materials, supplies according to policies and audit requirements. Performs assigned tasks safely; recommends safe work practices; all in accordance with accepted safety practices and department policy. Ensures the operational readiness of all training props and classroom facilities, equipment, and other consumables. Constructs, maintains and repairs training props to include basic concrete, metal fabrication, welding carpentry, etc. Inspects and prepares projects by delivering and placing training equipment, setting-up classrooms and lunch areas. Picks up trash and replaces damaged equipment, Assists with the preparation and execution of training scenarios; Operates prop fueling systems and document fuel use. Prepares, delivers, and operates portable training props; orders replacement parts, materials and supplies. Keeps accurate inventory of tools, materials and supplies in accordance with policies and audit requirements. Handles sudden changes in work conditions and assignments. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Harris County Basic Plan (HCBP) and applicable annexes. Demonstrates ability to function effectively as a member of an Incident Management Team in accordance with NIMS protocols and training during emergency or disaster situations and after-action reviews. Maintains and renews all required certifications as required by the respective State certification agency. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
