JOB TITLE: Mosquito Control Technician*

HOURS: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Monday - Friday
SALARY: Will Be Discussed During Departmental Interview
Based on 26 Pay Periods
EDUCATION: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required. Preference will be given to those with a BS degree.
EXPERIENCE: One month of experience in an organized mosquito control program is required.
JOB SKILLS: A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required. Driver’s license record will be verified. Successful candidate must obtain a Texas Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicator License within one year of employment and assignment to the Test & Evaluation Section. Data entry skills are required. Must possess the ability to read and comprehend maps. Skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs are preferred.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Collects mosquitoes and birds utilizing existing and newly developed trapping methods. Identifies and/or rears mosquitoes collected a test locations. Assists in locating areas for collection and determining mosquito densities. Assists in efficacy surveillance. Enters and retrieves data collected in fieldwork related to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Grant. Completes daily work logs on mosquito and avian samples. Performs other duties as assigned; including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.
POSITION IS SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS.
*GRANT FUNDED POSITION THROUGH DECEMBER 18, 2009.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires lifting fifty pounds.
