JOB TITLE:               Engineering Technician I – Fire Code – Sprinkler/Alarms Systems

DEPARTMENT:       PID –Engineering - Permits

HOURS:                     7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

            Monday - Friday

Subject to Early Mornings, Late Evenings, Nights, Holidays and Weekends

SALARY:                   Will Be Discussed During Departmental Interview

                                    Based on 26 Pay Periods

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A State of Texas Fire Protection Technician license, N.I.C.E.T. (National Institute Certifying Engineering Technician) or ICC (International Code Council) Fire Code related certification.  Two years experience in design, installation, maintenance and inspection of fire protection sprinkler systems is preferred.  A Bachelor's of Science degree in Fire Protection or a related field will be substituted for the required education and experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Reviews plans for compliance with Fire Code.   Disseminates information requested by the general public. Conveys detailed instructions relative to consultants relative to plans review and permitting; performs data entry of the requirements related to the issuance of permits; communicates with the public by telephone and in person to inform them of specific aspects of the regulations; interfaces with the Compliance Coordinator and Inspection Section of the Permit Division by verbal and written communication.   Stands for sustained periods of time to discuss fire code information and permit requirements with the public; lifts maps, plans and specifications in the review process for permit issuance.
