The Seniors Drama Program, under
the direction of, Thomas Meloncon
uses performing arts to raise awareness of critical issues
affecting senior citizens. Since its inception in August 2000,
the Harris County Precinct One Seniors Drama Program has
continued to operate under the premise that Senior Citizens are
capable and desire to be active and involved in activities that
manifest their wish to keep right on living. Seniors are
involved as actors, dancers, singers, stage technicians, costume
and make up assistants, ushers, masters of ceremony, and cue
masters in relevant dramas that speak to their immediate reality
and provide wholesome entertainment and education.
The drama workshops are scheduled every Monday & Wednesday at
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m at Tom Bass
Community Center. When necessary, additional times and days
are scheduled for performance season rehearsals. Recent
performances have been performed in high schools auditoriums in
and around the city. The last performance was held at the Marie
Flickenger Fine Arts Building on the San Jacinto College South
Campus. In an attempt to reach those unincorporated areas of
Harris County, a short excerpt traveling performance of music,
dance, and poetry was developed and has been successful in the
areas of reaching this population of constituents while being
inspiring and motivating. Groups in unincorporated areas of
Harris County can schedule the Drama Program to come out to
their location or request a scheduled performance at the Tom
Bass Community Center. Please click on
community center’s activities for more information. |
