Environmental Education Program En Español

Discover the Excitement of Nature!Challenger Seven Memorial Park provides the perfect atmosphere for interactive school field trips.  Nestled on the banks of Clear Creek, the park is home to several very important ecosystems including coastal prairie, wetlands and forests.  The Learning Center at Challenger Seven Memorial Park has been providing field trips to the youth of Harris County for over ten years.

The Learning Center also hosts Saturday morning children's classes and the "Polliwog Club", a Preschool Program.  Stargazing Parties and Wild Bird Symposiums are family events which are enjoyed throughout the year.

Challenger Seven Field Trips (top)
Challenger Seven Memorial Park offers several different activities to meet your school's resource needs.  The Learning Center is here to provide your students with an exceptional, exciting and educational field trip.

The Beautiful Bay
Discover the beauty and richness of Galveston Bay.  Observe many of the inhabitants of Galveston Bay in our touch tanks and 300 gallon aquarium.

CrabbingCrabbing   
Students explore Clear Creek by crabbing from the docks at Challenger Seven Memorial Park.  Learn about brackish water and the important role that crabs play in the creek and bay ecosystems.

Dip Netting
Students learn about native fresh water creatures including mosquito fish, dragon flies, crawfish and frogs.

Fantastic FishFantastic Fish
Children learn about many different types of fish and the adaptations which help them survive. Participants will collect specimens and view fish up-close in the Learning Center's 300-gallon aquarium.


FishingFishing
Challenger Seven Memorial Park has a beautiful three-acre lake, the perfect place to learn sport fishing.  The Learning Center provides the fishing poles, so all you need to bring is the bait.

Insect Sweep Netting
Your students will learn about the largest group of animals on earth.  Explore unique adaptations and realize how many species can be found in one small area.

Naturalist Programs
Challenger Seven Memorial Park Learning Center also provides up-close introductions to the animal kingdom.  Choose from several different programs to accent your curriculum.  Program subjects include Insects, Snakes, Turtles, Raptors, Bats, Alligators, Crustaceans and Marine Life.

Nature Scavenger Hunt
Explore nature with a scavenger hunt on the trails at Challenger Seven Memorial Park.  Students use their observation skills to become familiar with the world around them.

Traveling NaturalistThe Traveling Naturalist Program presented by Harris County Precinct One, is an exciting educational program that brings nature to life.

Designed to enhance the curriculum of science and biology classes, the goal of the Traveling Naturalist Program is to establish an understanding of the natural world and its inhabitants.  Participation in the entire Traveling Naturalist series ensures a broad understanding of various habitats and characteristics.  Students learn to appreciate nature and their environment by interacting with exotic and native animals. The sessions are designed to meet varying needs for class sizes, ages and schedules.  Call the Learning Center for a list of fees and policies, then select a Traveling Naturalist session that is most appropriate for your on-site visit.  The program is an exciting way to build understanding and awaken the natural curiosity of young minds.

Explore these fascinating reptiles that have changed very little since prehistoric times.  Meet a live alligator!  Program depends on availability of alligator.

Amazing Arthropods
Enter the fascinating world of arthropods.  Learn about the five groups of arthropods including spiders and insects.  Meet and touch live local and exotic species.

Adaptable Amphibians
Discover the smallest, but most colorful and vocal group of vertebrate animals.  Meet and listen to some live local amphibians.

Awesome Arachnids
Study our eight-legged friends up close.  Identify local spiders and observe a live tarantula.

Bodacious Bats
Meet the only mammal capable of true flight.  Explore the myths about these mysterious night flyers.  Observe a live bat depending on availability of animal.

Incredible Insects
Become fascinated with the largest group of animals on Earth!  Meet live local and exotic species.  Insect netting can be included as part of this program with advanced notice.

Leaping Lizards
Learn about the largest group of reptiles.  Observe live local and exotic species.
 

Mysterious MammalsMysterious Mammals
Identify local mammals, study their characteristics, see these animals up close and meet the only type of marsupial found in North America.

Radical Reptiles
Discover the different groups of reptiles and what makes them unique.  Meet live reptiles from the various groups.

Raptors of the Night
What is a raptor?  Which raptors are common in the local area?  Answer these questions and meet a live raptor.  Program depends on availability of raptor.

Slithering Serpentines
Identify local poisonous and non-poisonous snakes.  Observe live snakes and learn about their fascinating adaptations!
 

Turtle TalesTurtle Tales
Hear some amazing tales about our slow and not-so-slow moving friends who carry their homes on their backs.
