The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences offers two positions for ACGME-accredited fellowship in forensic pathology. The training program fulfills the eligibility requirements for Board certification. Fellows participate in the functioning of a busy medical examiner's office, which serves the metropolitan Houston area and eight surrounding counties. Fellows perform approximately 250 autopsies, as well as external examinations, participate in death scene investigations, handle questions from family members and police officers, and testify in court. Fellows are monitored by staff assistant medical examiners and ABFT certified toxicologists.

Forensic Photography Internship Program

Forensic Photography Internship Program

The Forensic Imaging Division of the HCIFS has developed an internship program for photography majors offering students a one-of-a-kind, hands-on experience in the field of Forensic Photography. Interested students must be photography majors who have passed upper level photography courses (intermediate/advanced). An introductory course in Human Anatomy and/or Criminology is also strongly recommended. This internship has been developed as an intensive photography program to prepare the student for real-life photographic experiences for the use of critical thinking and for a possible career in the field of Forensic Photography. Internship is a rare opportunity for photography students to learn and experience forensic photography while participating in the day-to-day operation of a busy medical examiner's office.
