The ASAP program is designed to notify parents of daily absences of their children. Precinct 2 Deputies make home visits attempting to minimize truancy problems. This creates an increased awareness for parents to be knowledgeable of their child's whereabouts during school hours. ASAP also provides the parents and the school district the opportunity for timely intervention.
The reasons for a student's absence range from illness to not having clothes to wear to school. By identifying the reasons for the absences we are able, in most cases, to address those needs by involving counselors, community organizations, etc. and get the student back in school.
It is hard to measure a preventive measure nonetheless administrators, teachers, parents and students all agree that ASAP is making a difference.
